1) Round
roof edge trailers (Pace, Haulmark) have better wind patterns but less strength
as extruded square edge. HUGE difference in strength.
2) BE
SURE the main rails are under the tires...duh...you'd be surprised how many
AREN’T!!!
3)
Goodyear Marathon tires Stink, make sure if you have these they have the letter
*S* inside a circle on one side, the others without the *S* are JUNK..trust
me..GARBAGE!! I use Michelin XPS 10 ply. ALWAYS use ribbed tread tires for the
trailer, NEVER use an all season tread.
4) Bumper
pull trailer weight should be 1 1/2 times the tow vehicle weight. ie: truck
weighs 6000, pull 9000 tops...GVW should max at 2 1/2 times truck weight.
5)
Enclosed trailers should have the tongue end underneath the front wall of the
trailer by 4 to 6 feet on the center post.
6)
Minimum 2x2 side posts, 16" centers, .040 material outside
7)*one
piece* aluminum roof, galvanized second choice.
8)Minimum
one roof vent
9)
Minimum 2 5/16 ball
10)
Torsion bars and sway controls, dual electric trailer brakes mandatory.
11)
Pressure treated plywood floors or it will rot in ? Years...
You have
a problem. Length of an average muscle car is about 17' and trailers usually
come in even lengths (18,20,22,24,26, etc.), so you need at a minimum 18' to
just hold the car. Now you need to figure the tongue length, too (figure about
4-5 feet). You're already over 22' and, believe me; you really cannot fit a
muscle car into a 18' trailer and be able to tie it down. MINIMUM should be 20'
(plus your tongue length!) and a "comfortable" length is 24'. A 24'
enclosed Haul mark trailer JUST fits into a 29' space. You'll find most car
trailers in the 22-24' lengths. You might find a 20' every once in awhile.
I would want a
"wide-body" which gives you more room inside to move around, a 4'
curb side door, a 4' road side door (to get out of the car once it is in the
trailer), a ramp door in the rear (beaver tailed). Many like the "heavy
duty" 10,000 GVW trailers. You'll have better luck with it than the light
duty trailers. I will also last a lot longer. Now, what are you going to pull
it with? No, your 1/2 ton pickup would be overloaded with a 3800 lb car AND a
4000 lb trailer (that's what a Haulmark weighs). Minimum 3/4 ton pickup with
heavy duty trailer package AND mirrors to look around that trailer! It is bad
to see people pulling a trailer with dinky little mirrors. There is NO way they
can see anything behind them (even with a non-wide body trailer). That is NOT
safe.
